Berlin (dpa) - The general consumer reticence doesn't goes on the costs of the pets. For their welfare 2,91 billion euros were spent in Germany 2005, similar to the years before, according to the Umbrella Organization of Zoological Concerns (ZZF) in Berlin.
In the households 23,1 million pets were kept in the year 2005 according to the Fair Berlin (previous year: 22,9), fishs and terrarium animals not added. The favoured domestic animals are further on cats. In the households are living 7,5 million cats, cites the Fair Berlin the Zoo Umbrella Organziation. Moreover there are kept 5,9 million small animals like rabbits, guinea pigs and mice, 5,3 million dogs and 4,2 million birds. In round 1,9 million aquaria and 1,2 million garden ponds are swimming thousands of ornamental fishes and in terraria are living round 400 000 reptiles and amphibiens.
In the european comparison the Great Britons are lying at the top of the table with expenses of 3,4 billion euro, followed by the French with 3,2 billion euro.
